Lost Worlded

Hi /Filmcast,

I always look back at The Lost World as an example of a movie where it was enjoyable, but yet it always felt like Steven Spielberg didn’t want to make it.  When I watch it, I think of a scene from Boogie Nights where you can see that Jack Horner has lost all passion for adult film:

*Is he going to fuck me*

*in the ass?*

*Is that what you want?*

*It would be nice.*

*Fuck her in the ass.

*Jurassic Park had some violent parts (such as Genarro getting eaten by the T-Rex), but it never seemed too grotesque.  Yet, there is that scene in The Lost World where the T-Rex eats that guy near the video rental place and you hear him struggling and getting the wind knocked out of him as he gets crushed in its jaws.  That scene alone made me think that Spielberg was saying “fuck this movie, I want to go home.”
*
*I haven’t seen Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but I remember Devin Faraci of Chud.com summarizing as “a really good Mummy movie.”  Although I hear nothing but negative things about this movie, it seems that Spielberg managed to turn in a movie that was good… relatively.

It seems that Spielberg can shit out movies and they still manage to be of a higher quality albeit not his own highest quality.

Do you guys think that this makes any sense or am I crazy?  Do you know of any other movies that have this overall vibe where it feels like the director had no interest in their making?  Do you know of any movies that succeed despite the perceived lack of passion?

Love the podcast.  I love that you have a format (“what have you been watching,” “movie news” then review).  It’s well ordered and every part is consistently entertaining.  There is passion, I don’t think you have “Lost Worlded” a podcast so far.
